At a Special Called City Council Meeting this afternoon, the City of Temple’s City Council members approved a resolution calling for residents to vote on a $33 million parks bond package during the May 2, 2020 general election. Based on new residential water account data, the City of Temple has added an average of 70 new households each month over the past five years. Funding from the parks bond will enable the City to create new parks for access to green spaces, while also providing upgrades to existing parks. The parks bond is anticipated to include the following*: Approximately 100 acres of new park space, Approximately 9 miles of new trails, Improvements to approximately 20 existing parks that include expanding and updating playgrounds, restrooms, pavilions, basketball and tennis courts and dog parks. *The estimated costs, proposed locations, proposed projects and proposed descriptions represent possible uses of such bond proceeds. The actual projects constructed and/or developed with bond proceeds are subject to change based on future economic market and other conditions. Early voting will take place the week of Monday, April 20 - Friday, April 24, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., as well as on Monday, April 27 and Tuesday, April 28 from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The City of Temple’s early voting location will be at the Fred Poteet Building (120 West Central Avenue), which is just west of the Municipal Building.
