The Temple College Adult Education & Literacy (AEL) program is seeking adults ages 18 and above to volunteer with the program. Committed volunteers are needed to assist instructors with classroom activities, help call students to check on progress, provide encouragement, and act as mentors and role models for education and employment. Volunteers also are needed to serve as testing proctors, and to assist with activities such as preparing classrooms and student information boards. Temple College helps more than 1,500 adult students per year obtain their GED and High School Equivalency certificates. Citizenship and English as a Second Language (ESL) classes also are taught. The program is especially looking for volunteers who speak Spanish, Vietnamese and Korean. Volunteers hours are from 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and Friday from 8 a.m. to noon in the Instructional Services Building at Temple College. Introductory volunteer workshops will be held Friday, Jan. 24, and Friday, Jan. 31, from 10-11 a.m. in Room 101 of the Instructional Services Building.
