CITY COUNCIL WRAP-UP Here's a quick recap of the top-happenings from the November 21st City Council Meeting. ________________________________________ City purchases property for potential "Storybook Grove" park next to Library in Downtown Temple The Temple City Council approved the purchase of a property just under 1/2 acre in size on W. Barton Avenue where a potential new park could be built for children and families visiting the Temple Public Library in Downtown. The proposed park, named "Storybook Grove," features a "Story Time" area where the Library can host outdoor reading sessions. The vision for the proposed park also includes interactive play areas based off iconic children's books, such as "Winnie the Pooh," "The Very Hungry Caterpillar," "Where the Wild Things Are" and "Charlotte's Web." ________________________________________ City to move forward on TXDOT funding agreement for portion of Outer Loop West Project The Temple City Council gave the authority to the City Manager to execute an Advanced Funding Agreement with the Texas Department of Transportation for the expansion of Old Waco Road between Jupiter Drive and Riverside Trail. This phase of the Outer Loop West project is estimated to cost $14.5 million and is expected to go out for bid in 2021. For more information on the public meeting being held for the Outer Loop West Project on December 3, 2019, visit templetx.gov. ________________________________________ Land rezoned for specialty coffee shop in historic home near Baylor Scott and White Hospital The Temple City Council approved a rezoning request for a proposed specialty coffee shop inside a historic home on the corner of W Avenue R and 33rd Street. Named after the year the historic home was built, "1914 Coffee House" plans on serving espresso drinks, brewed coffee, teas, and other beverages, as well as a light menu of pastries, salads, and sandwiches. ________________________________________ The Temple City Council holds regular meetings on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month. These meetings take place at 5:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers on the 2nd floor of City Hall at 2 N. Main Street. Agendas are distributed to the public by email and posted at City Hall the Friday prior to each meeting, and Council action taken on agenda items will be distributed by the Monday following the regularly scheduled Council meetings.
