Andrew Lambert Eye Care Leaders Leadership Temple Class of 2020 President Name: Andrew Lambert Employer: Eye Care Leaders How long have you lived in Central Texas? I moved to Zabcikville, TX in 1980. I have lived in the Temple area since that time barring a few relocations for work to Seattle, WA and Asheville, NC. I was always drawn back to the Temple area. My family moved back to Temple most recently in the summer of 2012. Are you married? Do you have children? I have been married to my lovely bride, Theresa, for 18 years. We have two children, Aidan (16) and Sydney (13). What do you like most about living in Central Texas? You don’t meet a stranger in Central Texas. For the most part, everyone looks out for each other and is willing to lend a hand wherever they are able. It’s that small, hometown feel that makes Central Texas so special. What inspired you to participate in Leadership Temple as a class member? I was inspired through working with local leadership on boards of directors while I was making every attempt to get involved in the community. Many of my fellow board members had been Leadership Temple Alumni. What inspired you to participate in Leadership Temple as a class leader? The impact that the class experience had on me was intriguing. You begin to see the city, the county, and the community in a different light. You begin to see where your colleagues and neighbors are making an impact through their involvement. Thus, it inspires one to get more involved themselves. What does the Leadership Temple program mean to you? Going into my 3rd year of involvement, the Leadership Temple program is special to me in that I have seen it have many different effects on different types of leaders. All of these effects are positive, yet different in their own way. From a class leader perspective, I enjoy that I am able to impart much of the community knowledge and inspiration on the class members that I received in a way that will propogate the community impact through their endeavors. Big things are happening in Temple. I enjoy being a small part of that. What are you most looking forward to with the 2019-20 Leadership Temple Class? We have a fantastic class planned for an outstanding roster of participants. I am looking forward to watching this class grow in the community. This is going to be a great year. Why is Leadership Temple important to the community? A few reasons: Leadership Temple inspires action. We have many great leaders in the community that truly want to get involved and make a difference. Leadership Temple acts as a catalyst for leaders to focus on making impacts that are important to them. It is a networking opportunity as well. Leaders come together to learn about government, service, business, and education all the while meeting key contacts for participation in boards, volunteer opportunities, and committee roles that may be of particular interest to the class member. Anything else you want the Temple community to know about you? I enjoy playing guitar on the porch, throwing tennis balls to dogs, and extemporaneous public speaking. I love spending time in the outdoors. There are very few things that a long walk in the woods can’t fix. I was at lunch one day with a local business friend, Elliot Germany, and he started talking about Leadership Temple. He told me I should participate and he would sponsor me. Of course, I informed him I was busy but would think about it. The next day I received a call from Warren Hine, the 2018-19 LT President, congratulating me on my acceptance into the program. I have since thanked Elliot for not allowing me to say no. He knew the value it would bring to me personally and professionally. Opportunity to grow, opportunity to learn, opportunity to network, but most importantly, opportunities to serve. If you love this community and see yourself building a career here, there is not a better program to invest your time. What are you most looking forward to with the 2019-20 Leadership Temple Class? Having the opportunity to serve the incoming class in the same way Warren and Andrew served our class. Why is Leadership Temple important to the community? Many people simply don’t know the opportunities available to them to serve. Leadership Temple is important to our community because it exposes people to all the pieces which have to work together to make a community, not only function, but thrive. If we want to continue to live in a thriving community, we will need a robust LT program.
