For almost 50 years, Temple Fire & Rescue’s classic 1939 Diamond T Fire Truck has been missing one key accessory. A hubcap. Sometime during the 1960’s, the rear passenger side hubcap went missing from the truck during everyday routine operations around Temple. Years went by, and with the manufacturer no longer in business, the hubcap was never replaced. That is until now. The hard-to-find replacement hubcap was recently located by Temple Fire & Rescue Driver, Justin Jackson and Battalion Chief, Matt Perrine. Located on Ebay and costing $250, the 80 year old relic is in need of some restoration. It will soon be repaired, re-chromed and installed on the antique fire truck. “Antiques like this do not come around every day. We were essentially looking for a needle in a haystack and we found it," said Temple Fire & Rescue Chief, Mitch Randles. "We are excited to finally be able to replace this missing piece on this iconic part of Temple's history." The 1939 Diamond T Fire Truck is currently housed at the Central Fire Station, located at 210 N. 3rd Street.
