On Thursday, May 2nd, Mayor Tim Davis issued a proclamation naming May as Preservation Month in Temple. Preservation Month is part of a national public information campaign designed to draw public attention to our historic architectural heritage and to the importance of preserving historic buildings. The Preservation Month Campaign is promoted nationally by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, in Texas, by the Texas Historical Commission, and locally, by the Temple Main Street Program. Temple will observe Preservation Month with four Preservation Month activities which include: The Temple Main Street Program has staged the Temple Architectural Appreciation Photography Contest. Forty-six framed photographs were submitted by local photographers. Entries were judged, and awards were given to the contest winners on May 2nd. All entries in the Temple Architectural Appreciation Photography Contest have been combined into a photo exhibit that will be displayed at three local museums. May - June: Czech Heritage Museum July - August: Bell County Museum September - October: Temple Railroad & Heritage Museu The Temple Main Street Program will also stage the Imagine the Possibilities Tour on Wednesday, May 29th from 5:00-8:00 p.m. The public is invited to participate in this self-guided tour which will be comprised of approximately one dozen open house receptions, each to be staged by downtown property owners who are either planning building restorations or who otherwise have buildings or shop space to sell or lease. The Texas Main Street Program in conjunction with the Temple Main Street Program, have launched the DowntownTx.Org web site that provides easy access to information about historic downtown buildings that either are for sale or for lease.
