Google found that one in three Google searches has local intent. What does that mean for you? People search for products and services near them, and if you operate a local business of any kind, it’s important that your business information shows up in their search. Your business should be listed in Google My Business to be found in a search, and you need a complete and working page for optimal SEO (Search Engine Optimization) rank success. The first thing you need to do is check to see if you already have a page. Do a search on Google Maps to find out if there is a page for your business. If you don’t have a page, then you need to set your up or claim what is there. First, sign in to Google with the Gmail account you will want to use to manage your listing. Once you are signed in, then go to https://www.google.com/business/. Google will walk you through creating a page. You will have to verify that you are the owner by a code and instructions sent by postcard or you can verify your business by phone. Once your page is verified, you need to optimize. Here are the basic steps to do that: Complete the entire profile. Local search rank favors those that have most up-to-date, detailed, accurate, and complete listing. Be sure to include keywords. Like traditional website SEO, relevant keywords and phrases will help Google serve the best search results to the consumer. Those relevant results help you rank higher. Keep your business hours up-to-date and add photos. Businesses will current and complete hours and great photos receive more requests for driving directions. Make sure you manage and respond to all customer reviews. Google’s goal is to help people find businesses where they are, and the closer the searcher is to your business, the higher your rank may appear in their search. The downside is that this can make it more difficult to get to customers from a location outside your local area. You also want to optimize your Google My Business page to be found outside your local area, too. One way to help make this happen is on other third-party, high-quality directory listings like Yelp, Trip Advisor, CitySearch, etc. Make sure that your business information is consistent across all these sites.
