The documentary, 10,000 LIVES, sponsored by the Houston Police Department and created by Texas Pictures with a team of high school students has been recognized with a Remi Special Jury Award, the highest award they present, for documentary at the WorldFest Houston film festival. The 30-minute film is an in-depth, gritty documentary about the impact of Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) on society created by Texas Pictures for the Houston Police Department. A team of Houston-area high school students assembled by Texas Pictures helped create this powerful documentary that targets teens as the audience. The Houston Police Department gave the production team rare, behind-the-scenes access to DWI enforcement, prisoner arrests and processing. The film also includes perspectives from police officers, victims, offenders, prosecutors and defense attorneys to present a comprehensive overview of this terrible crime. WorldFest Houston Founder and Director, J. Hunter Todd said “WorldFest is in the business of validating excellence. From here we find the Spielbergs of tomorrow. Each year we receive over 4,500 entries and from there only 200 are screened. We are honored to have 10,000 Lives on the silver screen with its powerful message.” The documentary has also won Best Texas Documentary at Austin Indie Fest film festival and was an official selection at REEL East Texas Film Festival.
